Dr. Sherry Beaumont, PhD, DVATI, RCC, is a Psychology Professor at the University of Northern British Columbia, a professional art therapist, and registered clinical counsellor. She was one of the first Canadian university professors to teach courses in positive psychology, including the benefits of contemplative practices and experiences for well-being and personal growth. Her published and current research is on the roles of contemplative processes (mindfulness, self-compassion, and savoring) in the development of identity and wisdom. Dr. Beaumont is also one of the few Canadian Trained Teachers of the Mindful Self-Compassion Program with the Center for Mindful Self-Compassion. Through her private practice, Raven Way Art Therapy and Counselling, she offers Jungian art therapy and compassion-based practices to help clients develop greater self-understanding and well-being. Although Dr. Beaumont’s primary work is in BC, she also spends several months per year in beautiful NS.
