Dr. Trudy Sable is a mindfulness educator, intercultural research consultant, and university liaison with First Nations communities in Atlantic Canada. Her background in mindfulness education began as a student, and then teacher, of Tibetan Buddhism as it was being adapted to western audiences in the mid-1970’s. Out of her passion for the arts and the natural world, she planned and led innovative children’s programs based on Buddhist principles and her own experiences growing up in the Berkshire mountains in western Massachusetts. She has led numerous retreats and programs for adults aimed at bringing individuals to discover their own paths and explore their own identities through contemplative practices. Dr. Sable has been a facilitator for ACC’s Open Mindfulness Groups since its inception, and was a faculty member and co-developer of their first Mindfulness Training program. She is the co-author of the book, “The Language of this Land, Mi’kma’ki” with Dr. Bernie Francis and the co-editor of the Journal of Contemplative Inquiry (JOCI) sponsored by the Association Contemplative Mind in Higher Education. She is currently the Community Engaged Research Facilitator to the Office of the Vice President at Saint Mary’s University, and an Adjunct Professor of Anthropology, and runs her own consulting business, TGS Research Management and Educational Consultants. Every summer she fills her backyard with vegetables, herbs, and flowers that are often spontaneously offered to family, friends, and especially her grandchildren.
